Description
-
This tile combines a rich variety of individual motifs, including the long, serrated-edged leaf often referred to as the saz style, a Persian decorative style imported to the Ottoman court in the mid-sixteenth century. Here the saz leaf is overlaid with a tulip and set against prunus blossoms and floral medallions. The strong colors and the very refined quality of the painting suggest that the complete tile panel would have been startling.
