Description
-
Seventeenth-century Safavid silks like this one were popular commodities in Europe as well as the local market. Contemporary paintings and court chronicles depict Iranian aristocrats wearing luxurious fabrics such as this one. This richly detailed textile is decorated with interlocking ogival medallions and floral patterns outlined in pale gray on a silver and gold ground.
