Description
-
Obverse and reverse, cockfight
In the treatment of shapes as well as decoration, Attic vase-painting offers an endless array of permutations. Here the cockfight appears on a band-cup, which would have been used at a symposium (drinking party). This artist uses less detail than Tleson, for instance, yet he effectively characterized the birds’ bulk and their eager heads.
