Manuscript formerly belonging to the library of King Louis XV. Holograph of a proposal, addressed to King Louis XV of France, to create 400 hereditary offices with the title Maréchaux des logis tresoriers inspecteurs. Their principal functions would include collecting and disbursing all funds for the maintenance and subsistence of the troops, with which they would serve, in order to prevent abuses from occurring to the disadvantage of the king; reporting regularly to the secretary of state of the Département de la guerre; and performing all the functions of majors and assistant medical officers except those of a purely military nature and those which concern the service and discipline of the troops. Written by Baron de Sparre, chevalier of the Ordre de St. Louis, lieutenant colonel and major of the Regiment allemand de Sparre, became general assistant medical officer of the infantry in the Armée de la Moselle.
Binding: contemporary red morocco, gold-tooled binding by Padeloup “le jeune,” with borders of acanthus leaves and olive branches, fleurs-de-lis corner tools, and a central armorial stamp of King Louis XV (1710-1774); combed marbled endleaves.
