Description
-
Many Ottoman sultans were avid collectors of Chinese porcelains, and the importation of these wares had a profound effect on regional ceramic production. The floral scrolls, foliate rim, and palette of this Iznik bowl reproduce those of a fifteenth-century Chinese prototype. The unusual addition of a raised foot on this piece, however, appears to be an Ottoman invention.
